Another week begins and I am planning my training and where I am going to fit in what I want to do between work, hubby's training, school, kids sport.  Last week I am happy to say, I succeeded in getting in my 5 days of exercise and I did increase my water .. but alas, the weekend came along and I forgot to keep it up!
I think maybe I pushed myself a bit hard last week, or maybe I'm just not used to training as much at the moment .. I was physically exhausted by the end of the week.  Maybe I need to schedule a rest day during the week and throw in a workout on the weekend or maybe just cut back to 4 days at the moment?
Now that I know I can do it .. must put my mind to it and continue .. consistency is the key, isn't that what I keep telling my clients?

While I was still on a high from the week's adrenaline, I started thinking about planning my running training for the 1/2 marathon. 5 months seems so long away and I wonder if I can again push myself to do all the training.  I'm really not a big fan of cold, dark early mornings .. nor do I really love the long training run! But it's more the physical challenge of pushing myself .. this year I am going to crack the 2 hours! I keep thinking about last years 2.02.04 with a torn calf muscle and figure that if I concentrate a bit more on consistency now, surely I can do it!

That being said, my first training run of my yet to be planned training program was this morning.  It's still light and not that hot in the mornings.  I know I haven't run for a week or so but the first 1k this morning and I really felt those training sessions last week.  Whose idea was it to mix up my training anyway?
I survived 6km and even though I was a bit slower than usual ... still pretty happy with the run.  With 5 months to go, I think I'm on track!

Have a goal .. move towards it everyday, even if you start with baby steps, it's a start!!

My challenge to me ..

Well, the kids are back at school and we are working on that routine that I keep trying to manage.  Now it's time to think about what I am going to do ... work, clean up after everyone, work, look after me.

I have been thinking about this for a while and I might use this time now to really focus on getting my body into the shape that I want it in.  Yep, I have a wishlist for my body ... not that it's too bad, I would just like to make a few adjustments!
My added motivation here is that I need to do this for work. I am pretty fit at the moment but there's always room for improvement.  And as a Personal Trainer, I will never make any of my clients do anything that I can't do myself .. so when I train them hard rest assured I have trained just as hard!

Anyway, I'm rambling.  My focus is getting my body and fitness to what I'm thinking is my ideal.  This at times seems a bit overwhelming I must admit as it will mean a lot of hard work.  But I mustn't use this as an excuse .. and I can think up heaps of excuses!!

Even though I have a vision, it's a longish term vision.  I think that if I break it down into little goals maybe I'll have more success.  I will be able to get excited at my own progress.  So having said this now, and this being day 1 of the new committed me, I will make a weekly goal and challenge.  They are only going to be small but each will get me closer to what I want.

This week, I will increase my water intake ... it's been a bit lacking lately and maintaining hydration is so important.
I have also promised myself that I will do some form of exercise at least 5 days this week.  This is only adding 1 or 2 extra sessions in, surely it can't be that hard. No excuses ...

OK, now that I have committed this to paper ( well, sort of ) and when my gorgeous role model sees this .. I'll have to answer to not only myself!

I will report my success ...

Me getting organised

Well it's that time of the week again when I sit down to plan the week .. well sort of.  In my house, things don't always to go plan but I like to think that I can control something, sometimes.
Really, the only thing that I do like to have thought out to a degree is my menu with meals for the week.  I know, it sounds completely anal doesn't it? No really, there is my logic to it.
Firstly, it makes me feel organised.  I don't have to get to 5 o'clock and empty the fridge in a panic wondering how I am going to make a healthy meal for the family.  When I plan the meals for the week, I make sure that I have everything I need to prepare the meal as it's all on the grocery list.  Of course, more often than not I am known to forget things ...
It also makes it a bit less stressful on those days when there is netball training or dance practice around dinner time.  And it helps hubby on those evenings when I have to go to work, everything is ready for him to get dinner when he gets home.
Secondly, when I plan the menu, I know that we are eating a reasonably healthy, balanced meal which is so important for training and making sure my clothes keep fitting me!  The kids are learning also, under sufferance, what constitutes a healthy, nutritious option for a meal.

Don't get me wrong, I am not as regimented as it all sounds.  There are days when we don't feel like what I've got on the menu ... so it gets changed.  It may just be a swap with another day, or that meal gets scrapped entirely and we eat something else.  I usually leave one day out as well ( usually because I can't be bothered thinking of another meal ) and this might be a takeaway night or we just go with what we feel like on the day.

For me to be able to train, work, chase after the kids and try to keep life from going totally off track, I plan healthy, nutritious meals in advance.  It might be a small thing but it helps me.

Reality ...

Back from holidays .. back to reality.  It's nice to get away, not feel the pressure of timeframes or routines. I even managed to toddle off for a run almost every day.  A run along the beach is a great change of scenery and certainly makes it easier to push yourself if you're not feeling quite motivated enough!

Back in reality though and it's the last week of school holidays. I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad especially as I will be seeing off our youngest at school for the first time!
Hubby and I are both back at work this week and we are being gradually eased into the new routines.  Next week it gets serious .. school runs, work, after school sport etc and trying to fit our training schedules in there somewhere.
I must say, I'm not the biggest fan of getting up early to go for a run. Especially when it's as hot as ... well let's just say it's really hot here even at 6am!
The only thing that gets me out of bed on those mornings when I just don't feel like it is knowing that I will feel so much better and more organised if I make that effort to fit that training run in ... No excuses!!!

It's holidays ...

I have been looking forward to this day for months now.  The last week has been a mixture of excitment, counting the sleeps and what to pack to the stress and panic that I won't have enough time to do everything on my list. ( Yes, I have a list .. of course .. actually I have more than one list but that's not to be discussed )

It's the annual family holiday to the coast!  Beautiful apartment overlooking the ocean booked 12 months ago.  Gorgeous weather that just begs you to go to the beach bounding into the beautiful blue waves.  Oh wait .. that's the dream .. reality is, the weather is not so flash! Hoping for a few days of sunshine if we're lucky!

Apart from the what to pack dilemma, I'm also wondering whether I should let all routine go over the holidays or do a mini detox to relax and start the new year fresh.  These are tough decisions ... How many cocktails and canapes should I have at sunset?  I know, it sounds like a great idea and particularly inviting but I'm also thinking about all the extra work that I will have to do when I get home to work off those delicious pina coladas!

I know, it's hard to decide but in all honesty I'm glad it's finally holidays and the only real decision that I will have to make is what time to hit the beach in the morning with the kids! Oh, and which swimmers to wear ...

Speaking of swimmers, I think I will compromise ... Maybe I'll have a cocktail or two but I'll make sure that I go for a run in the mornings ... along the beach, just to balance it all out!  Ah, now that sounds like a perfect holiday at the beach!

Most of all, whatever you are doing, remember to enjoy it!!

Soon to be fabulously relaxed ...

2011 .. It's a New Year! Why not make it your year!

Well, it's finally 2011 .. a New Year.  A fresh page on which to make your mark.  There seems to be quite the flock of people taking to the tracks around our area presumably fulfilling their New Years resolutions of including some exercise into their daily routine.  I wish them luck in their endeavours and I do hope that they achieve what they have set out to do.

What are your health and fitness goals for 2011? Or haven't you thought about it yet? I have been asking my clients what their health and fitness goals for this year are going to be ... some are clear cut and down the line, others are straying a bit so hopefully everyone will stay close to on track!

My goals for the year ... 1 maintain the balance between my family, working and keeping on track with my training ... 2 complete the Gold Coast 1/2 marathon again with another PB! ( Kind of looking forward to that one even though I'm not a big fan of the training sometimes )

I think that the best way to have success with your resolutions or goals for this year is to keep them kind of short term.  That way you get to experience that sense of achievement and that in itself is motivation to keep improving and working harder!

Be committed and do your best ... it's your choice you just have to make it!!

Keep up the hard work
